New York Stage & Beyond Series

In 1987, the Performing Arts Center began to diversify its concert selections, presenting more than just the best in classical music by bringing to Las Vegas theatre groups such as the New Vic Theatre, the Alley Theatre, and Theatre Sans Fils; singers Marilyn Horne, Leontyne Price, and Judy Collins; and modern dance and ballet from the world’s best companies, including Dance Theatre of Harlem, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Twyla Tharp, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.

Two new series, The Best of the New York Stage and the World Stage, were conceived in 1999 to answer the continuing need for more popular music and more diversity in programming. Rockapella, Marvin Hamlisch, Linda Eder, Betty Buckley, Patti Lupone, Dianne Reeves, and the Boys Choir of Harlem have enjoyed successful performances in the Ham Concert Hall.  Les Ballets Trockadero, the Georgian State Dance Company, the Chieftains and the American Spiritual Ensemble have augmented this diverse lineup, bringing spectacular music and dance from around the world.  Special events have included performances by Rosemary Clooney, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Bobby McFerrin, and Hal Holbrook. In 2004, we combined these two series to create the New York Stage & Beyond series.
